ARTISTIC
STATEMENT
Throughout my musical education and professional career, music has always been a medium of assertion, manifestation as well as conveyance of an intent and history. As a performer, I believe the musical work reincarnates each time by the interpretation of each performer. For me ingenuity, persuasive, devout performance is the one that has its creative decisions relevant to the time we live in but also moulds with the inherent knowledge from the past and within the body of the work. During the act of performance, I aspire to recognize the collaborative nature of musical work and reflect these ideas into my interpretations and build a bridge between the work and the audience.
My repertoire includes compositions from Early Music to experimental works of emerging artists of the contemporary period, particularly those works with electronics. In recent years, especially during my Masters degree as Alexander Ivashkin Scholar in Music Performance at Goldsmiths University of London, I have been particularly interested in innovative interpretations of past music involving altered flute, modern flute techniques and electronics. In 2021, I was awarded the Bert Jansch Foundation Grant for my short research project “Usage of Extended Flute Techniques as Ornamentation and Articulation Tools In Baroque Music”, a project focusing on possible collaborative elements between Baroque Music and flute’s extended techniques in modern times. The project is also in cooperation with my ongoing project “Composers’ and Performers’ Intentions”, which brings together a series of interviews I had with the composers of the pieces I work on. The main aim of my practice is to challenge, rediscover and transform the ideas of the past with today's available innovative techniques in order to bring different aspects to the works and make the art of music more approachable and communicative in our times.
